Essential Oils & Aromatherapy: Choose by Aroma, Transparency & Safety

A practical essential-oil decision guide focused on aroma, bottle transparency, route of use and safety boundaries rather than unsupported treatment promises.

Start with the job: aroma, not a diagnosis

Homeapotherapy treats ordinary retail essential oils primarily as aroma products unless a specific medical claim has evidence appropriate to that exact use. Lavender, peppermint and other oils can be useful scent choices without requiring us to pretend that liking an aroma proves treatment efficacy.

For an evening atmosphere, see essential oils for a wind-down aroma. For a brighter scent profile, see essential oils for a bright-home aroma.

What changes the buying decision

Compare the botanical identity, bottle size, ingredient disclosure, extraction/source information when available, intended route of use and the quality of the safety directions. A transparent label is more useful than a long list of wellness promises.

Essential oils are concentrated substances. Keep them out of eyes and away from children, and do not assume that a product intended for aromatic or topical use is safe to swallow. Follow the product-specific dilution and use directions rather than improvising a stronger concentration.

Compare the current catalog

The product table below is generated from the normalized catalog. That means future essential-oil additions enter this decision route automatically instead of existing only as isolated fact sheets.
