Leave-on cream with 2% salicylic acid plus urea, lactic acid, ceramides and moisturizers; normalized as a psoriasis OTC treatment record, not a ranking.

Fit signals

comparing salicylic-acid cream vehicles, checking scale-directed active concentration and barrier ingredients

Potential constraints

assuming 2% is automatically better tolerated or more effective, using on large areas without following Drug Facts guidance

Key tradeoff: The formula combines scale-directed treatment and moisturization, but ingredient richness does not establish comparative superiority.

This is a factual fit-and-tradeoff summary, not a product recommendation. Formula, device and brand claims remain manufacturer claims unless the cited source is explicitly regulatory or independent testing.

What this product is doing

CeraVe Psoriasis Moisturizing Cream is a leave-on OTC psoriasis treatment with 2% salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is the drug active; the surrounding cream formula adds urea, lactic acid, glycerin, dimethicone, niacinamide, three ceramides and other emollient ingredients.

That combination makes this more than a plain barrier moisturizer, but the roles should stay separate: salicylic acid is the scale-directed OTC active, while the moisturizer system supports hydration and skin feel.

What the Drug Facts establish

DailyMed lists salicylic acid 2% with a psoriasis purpose and directions to apply to affected skin one to four times daily or as directed by a doctor. The label also says to avoid eye contact, ask a doctor before use when the condition covers a large area, and stop and seek advice if psoriasis worsens or does not improve with regular directed use.

How to compare it

Useful comparison fields are active class, active concentration, leave-on vehicle, exfoliating co-ingredients and barrier-support ingredients. The 2% concentration should not be converted into a score against a 3% cream: higher concentration does not automatically establish better effectiveness, better tolerability or a better fit for a particular body site.
