A single-ingredient USDA Organic acacia gum powder providing 6.5 g acacia gum and 6 g soluble fiber per tablespoon. A 2024 randomized IBS-C trial used 10 g/day acacia fiber and significantly improved stool frequency versus placebo, while not significantly improving stool consistency, stool mass or quality of life.

Fit signals

Adults comparing acacia gum as a gradually titratable soluble fiber, People who value a simple organic powder and want a fiber with randomized IBS-C stool-frequency data

Potential constraints

Anyone expecting the 6.5 g retail serving to reproduce a 10 g/day trial automatically, People with alarm gastrointestinal symptoms who need diagnostic evaluation rather than escalating fiber

Key tradeoff: Simple formula and useful randomized constipation data, but the trial dose was higher than one NOW serving and improvements were selective rather than global.

This is a factual fit-and-tradeoff summary, not a product recommendation. Formula, device and brand claims remain manufacturer claims unless the cited source is explicitly regulatory or independent testing.

NOW’s Acacia Fiber is a single-ingredient organic gum acacia powder derived from Acacia senegal / Acacia seyal. One tablespoon provides 6.5 g acacia gum and 6 g soluble fiber.

Its clinical story became more interesting with a 2024 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 180 adults with IBS-C.

What the IBS-C trial found

Participants receiving acacia fiber took 10 g/day for four weeks. Compared with placebo, acacia significantly increased stool frequency.

The effect was not universal across every outcome. The trial did not find significant between-group improvement in stool consistency, stool mass or quality of life, and constipation-symptom improvement was only a trend.

That distinction matters. The evidence supports a useful stool-frequency signal—not “acacia cures IBS-C.”

How the NOW serving compares

The NOW serving is 6.5 g, below the 10 g/day trial dose. Two servings would exceed the trial amount, so simply doubling is not an evidence-based instruction. A fiber trial should be approached by gradual titration and tolerance, not by chasing a study number mechanically.

Where acacia fits among prebiotics

Acacia is a soluble fermentable fiber with direct constipation-level evidence from the cited IBS-C trial. Its evidence is stronger for stool frequency than for stool consistency, stool mass, quality of life or global symptom relief.

People with new bleeding, weight loss, anemia, severe pain, obstruction risk or major bowel-habit change should not keep escalating fiber without medical assessment.

Compare acacia with PHGG, XOS, FOS, GOS, resistant maltodextrin, HMOs and resistant starch.
