What it is
Photobiomodulation uses non-ionizing light in defined wavelength ranges and doses. Consumer “red light therapy” products vary from small targeted panels to large modular systems, which means a study using one device or dose is not automatically evidence for another.
The spec trap
A single peak irradiance number can look decisive but may be measured with different instruments, distances or methods. We therefore treat measurement source and distance as part of the spec, not fine print.
What changes the home-use decision
- The specific use case and body area.
- Wavelength mix and whether it matches the evidence you are actually relying on.
- Usable treatment area at a realistic distance.
- Output transparency and measurement method.
- Controls, mounting and setup friction.
- Warranty, return window and documentation.
- Regulatory language that says exactly what status applies.
